Always at the Midpoint – Jerod DeStories

Today the post comes from our third and final co-founder, Jerod DeStories. Jerod talks about his view on what being at the midpoint means to him. Enjoy!

The concept of Midpoint centrally focuses on the idea that we are right in the middle of it all. Each and every day we have the ability to choose; whether this decision is big or small, knowledge based or a shot in the dark. Often I imagine the simultaneous invitations, questions, and statements that lead and guide me through this tumult of thoughts. It seems like I am also in a position to jump in any direction and watch the consequences unfold regardless if they are good or bad. I’m always at the midpoint living in a fast paced society that claws and pushes for my attention. I’m always at the midpoint looking into the future but living in the moment. I’m always at the midpoint being diversified enough to help everyone around me. I’m always at the midpoint watching the world unfold from the inside out. I’m always at the midpoint.

Living at the Midpoint – Josh Burley

Hello again! It has been too long since we updated this page but I want to let everyone know that we are working on getting this off the ground again and will have shirts soon!

Today the post is written by Josh Burley. He is one of the co-founders of Midpoint and has written a brief piece on what living at the midpoint means to him. If you like this post please share it with your friends and make sure you like the Midpoint Lifestyle facebook page so that you can stay up to date with all things Midpoint! – Vance Johnson

Living at the midpoint is to be in the transitional phase of life, and holding on to what you love most to get through it. The hobbies that keep you sane, keep you grounded, keep you laid back and relaxed. Whether that be hunting, running, painting, riding, boarding, flying, jumping, raising or buying! There’s a talent out there that you have claimed, it’s just how your brain was trained! Thats what people will know you by. That talent will consist of your midpoint. Life’s a journey, so live the midpoint!

Vance Johnson

My name is Vance Johnson and I feel like I’ve been living life at the Midpoint for a while now. I have accomplished a lot in my life but I am nowhere near where I want to end up. Let me explain.

I have always been very involved and interested in a lot of different things. I have never been able to make up my mind on just one thing. For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I wanted to be a PE teacher in elementary school, an English teacher in high school and after serving a mission and learning Spanish I wanted to be a high school Spanish teacher. I spent two years in college studying to be a teacher but I received an astonishing amount of negativity from trusted adults in my life. I think my parents were some of the only adults that were one hundred percent supportive of my plan. I have been lucky to have parents that are very supportive and have been supportive in everything I do and have done. After a lot of negativity and the doubts of my then girlfriend about how I planned to provide for our future hypothetical family on a teacher’s salary I decided to change my plan. So after two and a half years of school I decided to change my major and essentially start college over.

In the culture in which I am immersed there is a lot of pressure to compare yourself to others. I have a lot of friends that are married or going to be married very soon. A lot of my friends and peers are in graduate programs in school many of them have already finished a master’s degree. A lot of the people around me don’t support themselves financially because they live with their parents. Living in this environment can be very difficult especially when you don’t have a girlfriend (despite valiant efforts), are still finishing up prerequisite classes at the local community college, have a boring day job and in order to make ends meet you pick up a couple of hours a week delivering pizza on the weekends. A lot of times I feel stuck and as much as I want to move on it seems that I am so far away from being where I want to be.

At times it is really hard to stay positive but every time I get discouraged about my situation I sit back and count my blessings and realize that I actually have a really good life. I have two jobs that allow me to pay for everything I need and a lot of what I want. I have a house to live in with awesome roommates. I am at a community college and have been able to pay for school by myself without having to take out any student loans yet. I am financially independent which hasn’t always been easy but the freedom I enjoy by not depending on others for really anything is something I am very proud of.

I am at a midpoint right now in my life. I have accomplished a lot but I have so much room to grow and progress. Things will get better soon and as they do I will look back on my struggles and trials and realize how the hard times taught me to be tough and how its all uphill from here. My name is Vance and I thrive at the midpoint.midpoint logo copy
